My group for the final project is Katie, Chris, and myself. For our final project we want to take a look at a data associated with Bates athletics. Specifically, one topic we are looking to dive into is attendance of different sporting events. We will be using the Bates Athletics website to collect attendance data.
Is attendance affected by the sporting event’s location on campus? Is attendance affected by the sport’s season? Is attendance affected by the sport itself?
These are all questions that we hope to understand better. We’ve agreed that football is going to have more attendance based on sheer popularity and the way it is associated with collegiate athletics. I think it will be interesting to compare the attendance data between Garcelon field with the fall sports and the springs sports. Also we are curious to see how the attendance data differs between the different sports that play games in the Alumni gymnasium. Alumni gymnasium is interesting to due its sheer size being a limiting factor when it comes to attendance.
In conclusion it is hard for me to think of just one question that we are aiming to answer with the data we are diving into. I think as we go through the project and the data we will learn a lot about Bates sports attendance across different teams, seasons, venues, and maybe even changes over time.
